integrating cities – Cities Grow

The CITIES GROW project (2017–2019) was an EU-funded initiative led by EUROCITIES, aimed at enhancing mutual learning between European cities to improve the implementation of migration policies through concrete actions.

MigrationWork CIC served as an expert partner, facilitating city-to-city mentoring schemes and contributing to the development of practical resources.

Project Overview:

Objective: To support cities in facilitating the integration of migrants and refugees by improving access to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Methodology: The project implemented tailored mentoring schemes in four thematic areas:

  • Access to public and private contracts for immigrant entrepreneurs.
  • Promoting migrant participation in local labour markets through partnerships.
  • Services to support migrant entrepreneurs.
  • Anti-discrimination strategies for the local job market.

Activities: Each mentoring scheme involved study visits and mentoring visits between mentor and implementing cities, facilitated by EUROCITIES and expert partners, including MigrationWork CIC. These exchanges allowed cities to observe policy initiatives, share good practices, and develop action plans endorsed by local administrations.

MigrationWork’s Role:

As a learning partner, MigrationWork CIC contributed to the project’s methodology and resource development. We led the creation of thematic benchmarks to assess integration policies based on agreed European standards. We co-authored the Integrating Cities toolkits, providing practical guidance and examples to help cities reach European standards in migrant integration. We supported the mentoring process by assisting cities in formulating action plans and facilitating stakeholder engagement.
