Strategic Legal Fund

for Refugee Children and Young People

How to apply

Applications to the Strategic Legal Fund for Refugee Children and Young People (SLF) are by submission of an application form and supporting documents. The application form asks for details of the work proposed and other information relating to eligibility and criteria.

Potential applicants to the SLF are strongly encouraged to pre-register their interest at any time by completing a short form and submitting key supporting documents. Eligibility and financial viability can then be checked ahead of any application for funding, allowing applications from pre-registered organisations to be dealt with more quickly. Pre-registered organisations will be added to a mailing list and sent periodic updates about the development of the SLF.

Application deadlines

Please see panel on the right for details of monthly application deadlines. Applicant organisations are checked for eligibility and financial viability. Eligible applications for the type of work funded by the SLF are taken to the Expert Panel. The Panel meets monthly to decide which funding applications to recommend to The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. Decisions are made on the basis of Eligibility and Criteria for Applicants, and in line with the Expert Panel’s Guidance for Assessing Grant Applications, available as annexes to the Guidance Notes for Applicants on the Downloads page. The Panel may recommend funding all, part or none of an application and will take into account how much money is left in the SLF.

Application results

All organisations whose applications have been considered by the Expert Panel in the monthly meeting will be informed whether their application has been successful or unsuccessful within three days of the Panel meeting. Unsuccessful applicants will be sent reasons for refusal within one month of the decision. News about decisions of the Panel is available on the Updates page.

Award of funding

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund is committed to ensuring that funding is released as soon as possible to successful applicants. Where all supporting documents and information is provided, funding should be released within two weeks of a successful decision.

Monitoring and evaluation

Recipients are expected to complete short monitoring reports at three monthly intervals after receipt of funding and a final report. Information about the monitoring processes is in the Terms and Conditions of Grant, at Annex 3 of the Guidance Notes for Applicants. Information about the results of evaluation processes will be posted in Updates.
